Bouquets for Gloria RoseGloria Rose was considering a one-woman show in New York. Considering being the operative word. Is there really an audience for a discussion of culture, food, Africa, literature, international travel, decorating and aesthetics? Perhaps, perhaps not. Does she have a producer? Does she really need one? Perhaps, perhaps not. Usually one-woman shows are reflections on how rotten life has treated some poor has-beens or never-weres. Rose doesn't fit either bill. She is, by her own admission, expressive. Her voice has a soothing quality to it. It sounds as though it could recite ghazals in one breath. She has also considered adding songs to her proposed one-woman show as well as a touch of Elizabethan poetry. "Elizabethan poetry is simply lovely with its graceful and soaring phrases. At its best, it just takes me away. It makes me forget all that hurts me." |
